It appears that in order to use mail.live.com one has to be invited.
How does one get an invite to mail.live.com?
no you don't need an invite.
it is a free email service, no invite necessary.
you only need an account. or a passport as they call it.
once you get an account on msn you are eligible for all of their free services.
to sign up:
go to http://msn.com
where it says welcome, on the right of it it should say sign in
on the right of where you enter information, click sign in button
then you make an account.
OR you could just click the sign up button on http://mail.live.com
and after you've created the account, go to http://hotmail.com
and enter the email and password
it's often quicker than live. and more straightforward. well for one address at least
